Following the tragic death of a British patient who travelled to the USA to receive cosmetic surgery, the media have slated the cosmetic surgery tourism concept. I think that this is unfair as it is the actual practitioner who is as fault, no matter where they live!
In the sad case, the 20 year old Claudia Aderotimi was operated on by a person who wasn’t even a trained doctor and then had banned silicone implanted into her buttocks in a hotel room! DODGY at its worst!
So why do people travel abroad for cosmetic surgery. Well, unfortunately, in most cases it is to save money. And this is fundamentally the wrong way to approach any surgery, let alone surgery abroad in unfamiliar surroundings. On top of that, people then try to return home too quickly, to avoid steep hotel bills. They then run the risk of DVT on the flights, as well as not having access to their surgeons when they return home. Annabel, a performing artist, came to see Dr Ravi Jain in London and requested her waistline be raised in order to give her more of an hour glass figure. She was adamant that no fat was to be removed from her buttocks as she was hoping that the new look would resemble the J-Lo Butt! Also, she had to be back at work within a week as she had an important gig to perform in the following weekend.
Once Annabel was cleared medically for treatment, she was examined and the results of treatment were explained to her. She was recommended a session of liposuction with the new, Vaser Liposuction method, which considerably reduces any recovery and side effects and gives amazing smooth results.
The procedure was performed under local anaesthesia and Annabel was home a few hours later. Do your arms pass the ‘hi there’ test?

- Because the patients are asleep, surgeons can be more aggressive and work faster, minimising the duration of the general anaesthesia but at the same time increasing the collateral damage to the surrounding tissues and increasing the amount of blood loss. Medical studies have shown that there can be 7 times more blood loss with traditional liposuction when compared to 3rd generation ultrasound-assisted-liposuction (eg VASER Liposelection). However, when having liposuction under GA, one treatment is all that is required as generally you could treat multiple areas.

Facial sagging is one of the biggest signs of aging, with one of the most problematic areas being the cheeks and jaw line. As the skin ages, it looses collagen, which is the most important ingredient to keep the skin plump and tight and wrinkle free. For many mature women, however, this loss of collagen also causes the development of jowls, a sagging of the skin around the bottom of the face.
Where many women either try to either ignore it or opt for extreme face lifts, they perhaps have not considered Vaser Lipo or Dermal Fillers to get rid of jowls. But both of these treatments can help give women the youthful look they want without having to resort to invasive cosmetic surgery.
Vaser Lipo is an almost invasive-free treatment.
