Overdone the sun? IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) can help!

Grand Sunset - Part 1It won’t come as much of a surprise that skin damage is a huge issue for British men and women, with summer holidays, sun beds and general ageing leaving many with sun damaged skin. If you start to find that your face is showing the obvious signs of sun damage such as uneven skin pigmentation, red thread veins and looser skin, then an Intense Pulsed Light (or IPL) treatment could give you back healthier, younger looking skin.

Sun damage does not only occur after a 2 week intensive summer holiday, or one too many trips to the local tanning booth, but also over time. Sun damaged skin and general signs of ageing can even be caused by our own feeble British sun where UV light is still able to break through the clouds and reach our exposed skin. This everyday exposure to harmful UV rays makes our skin become damaged and weaker as the levels of collagen are reduced, leaving us with sagging, as well as discoloured and unhealthy looking skin.

Quest for perfect face leaves body in disgrace

image.phpA new survey has revealed that 90% of women fail to protect their body from the effects of sun damage despite taking precautions for their face, increasing the risk of developing an embarrassing face/body mis-match as they get older.

Many people are aware of the common wrinkling of the neck and upper chest of older women often called ‘Turkey Neck’ but most don’t realise that other areas of the body such as the arms can also become loose, saggy and dimply with age.

In a recent survey of patients and enquiries carried out by award-winning cosmetic clinic Riverbanks, 9/10 of those questioned admitted that they didn’t pay as much attention to their body as they did to their faces and over three quarters admitted that they had experienced severe sun burn on more than one occasion to their body.

Without regular preventative care such as SPF and hydrating moisturisers, Cosmetic Dermatological Surgeon Dr Jain at Riverbanks Clinic is concerned that many women could be wasting thousands of pounds keeping their face looking youthful only to be let down in later years by an ageing, sagging body.
