Today, I presented a lecture on how to achieve younger looking hands, at The Body Conference in London to physicians, surgeons and nurses from all over the world. Here is a brief summary of my talk:
Common problems seen in the ageing hand:
- Brown spots – hyperpigmentation representing sun damage
- Wrinkles – representing sun damage which reduces the elasticity of the skin. Wrinkle are also caused by loss of volume to the hands.
- Bony hands – certain conditions such as osteoporosis cause widening of the joints and muscles waste away, making the hands look bony, and skinny.
Treatments which I use to achieve younger looking hands:
- IPL – a gentle laser zaps away the brown spots in just 1 or 2 sessions
- Radiesse – a collagen stimulating dermal filler which requires 1 treatment to plump up the lost volume and give smooth, hydrated skin for up to 1 year.
- Restylane Vital – hydrating injections of hyaluronic acid which plump the skin, making it very soft and smooth. Requires 3 treatments, and lasts about 6-8 months.
