‘Injectables should only come from doctors or nurses – not hairdressers’
One of the UK’s top cosmetic doctors, based near Harpenden, is today joining nationwide calls for the regulation of cosmetic fillers and other injectable substances such as Botox.
Dr Ravi Jain of RiverBanks Clinic (www.riverbanksclinic.co.uk) between Harpenden and Luton, says that following the PIP breast implants scandal, the next area needing tighter regulation is the use of injectable fillers and wrinkle smoothers that are now being offered by everyone from hairdressers and dentists to beauticians and salon staff:
“My message is that regulation of these incredibly popular cosmetic procedures is long overdue. Patients should know that if they are looking for this type of anti-ageing treatment that the people offering injections are fully trained doctors or nurses – not hairdressers or beauticians.
“As a fully trained doctor I think it’s a scandal that this sector of the industry is left wide open to cowboys and unscrupulous operators who offer bargain prices but with no guarantee of trained staff, safety or high-quality, long-term results.
