Cosmetic Fillers Scandal in UK – Dr Jain’s view

‘Injectables should only come from doctors or nurses – not hairdressers’ 

One of the UK’s top cosmetic doctors, based near Harpenden, is today joining nationwide calls for the regulation of cosmetic fillers and other injectable substances such as Botox.

Dr Ravi Jain of RiverBanks Clinic (www.riverbanksclinic.co.uk) between Harpenden and Luton, says that following the PIP breast implants scandal, the next area needing tighter regulation is the use of injectable fillers and wrinkle smoothers that are now being offered by everyone from hairdressers and dentists to beauticians and salon staff:

“My message is that regulation of these incredibly popular cosmetic procedures is long overdue. Patients should know that if they are looking for this type of anti-ageing treatment that the people offering injections are fully trained doctors or nurses – not hairdressers or beauticians.

“As a fully trained doctor I think it’s a scandal that this sector of the industry is left wide open to cowboys and unscrupulous operators who offer bargain prices but with no guarantee of trained staff, safety or high-quality, long-term results.  Read more... Dr Ravi Jain speaking not once but twice at the Cosmetic News Expo

Riverbanks Clinic are proud to announce that Dr Ravi Jain, the clinic’s lead cosmetic physician, will be speaking and getting involved with live deomonstrations and workshops at this year’s prestigious Cosmetic News Expo at the Business Design Centre in London on the 7th May.

The expo, which is on both the 6th and 7th May, is one of the country’s leading exhibitions for aesthetic treatments, offering visitors and delegates the opportunity to hear about all the latest treatments and aesthetic treatment news.

Attracting 450 delegates in the field, the Cosmetic News Expo features industry leaders including plastic surgeons, cosmetic doctors, dermatologists, aesthetic nurses, dentists and aestheticians, this year including our very own Dr Jain.

Around the world a good head of hair is viewed as a sign of health, youth and vitality.  So it comes as no surprise that for the millions of men and women suffering from hair loss and hair thinning that this causes a diminished sense of self-esteem and poor self-image and this can significantly impact on a person’s overall quality of life.

Recently a study conducted by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS) found that almost 60% of people would put a head of hair above money or friends and that  of the 1,407 people who were polled in this survey, it was only slightly more women at 64% who also indicated they wanted more hair than friends of money.  Read more... Emervel – is this the best in Hyaluronic Acid dermal filler in the UK?

In the UK, many of my patients at Riverbanks Clinic often ask me whats the best dermal filler for them: is it Restylane or is it Juvederm Ultra? I have always answered them honestly, explaining that in my experience each brand has a particular benefit over the other and that it depends on the patient and the area being treated.

I have been fortunate enough to have been involved in the late stages of the release of a brand new hyaluronic acid dermal filler called Emervel, released by pharmological giant Galderma, the suppliers of Azzalure. And I must admit both my patients and I have been extremely impressed with its results. I have found reduced inflammation, excellent blending in the to skin and extremely natural looking results in a pain free injection. In other words, my initial evaluation of this exciting new product is that it has drawn on all the best qualities from other dermal fillers and rolled them in to a new,  safe and effective hyaluronic acid.  Read more...
